OF JEWISH THEATER

Solomon Mikhoels in one of the most successful GOSETís productions King Lear, Moscow, 1934.

Mikhoels (1890 ó 1948) was among the first students of Granovskiiís Yiddish Studio and later become a leader of the Moscow Yiddish theater. Abram Efros (one of the founders of GOSET) wrote at the end of the 1920s describing the situation in the Moscow Yiddish troupe: "Two centers exist now in GOSETís internal life: the theater is led by Granovskii, the actors are led by Mikhoels; . . . Granovskii was a creator of performancesí style in general, Mikhoels was a creator of actorsí play style".
